To be a Christian Community where each member belongs: Celebrating, Connecting and Contributing.

Foundation of sharing

We are compelled by Christ’s love to share the grace we have received.

Facilitation of service

We expect both men and women to use their spiritual gifts, abilities and resources “as” the church and “in” the church.

The Atmosphere is Caring, Contemporary, Casual

Journey is caring.  Our mission is to bring people to God through authentic love.  Whether we are at work or at play we seek to extend the kind of love and grace that Jesus has given us.  Our formally organized ministries are founded on this principle as well.  The atmosphere you will find at Journey is one of love for people.

Journey is contemporary.  We will always strive to be contemporary in our worship, ministry, methods and biblical life lessons.  Our music will continually speak to and touch people of current times.  Our methods will be adjusted to reach people in the present.  The lessons given from the Bible will be relevant and applicable to real life.

Journey is casual.  We are casual in our dress, not in our faith.  Our casual environment is to remove unnecessary boundaries for people and at the same time comes from our desire to be authentic.  Authenticity is a heart-matter.  We praise, honor and glorify God with our hearts.  Our "dress" isn't what matters to Jesus or to us, it is our hearts.  People who make up Journey come from a wide range of backgrounds.

 What We Believe

Affirmation of Faith

  • We believe in the one God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, as revealed in the Holy Bible and made known in Jesus Christ our Lord.
  • We believe that Jesus the divine Son became human, was born of a virgin, ministered in word and miracle, died for our sin, was raised bodily from the dead, ascended to God’s right hand and is coming again for his people.
  • We believe that the Holy Spirit is presently ministering through the Christian Community, empowering lives of godliness and service.
  • We believe that the Holy Bible is completely God-breathed, true in all its teaching, and the final authority for all matters of faith and practice.
  • We believe that Jesus Christ established his Church on earth to carry out his saving mission among all ethnic people groups and formed her to be One Holy People.
  • We believe in God’s saving grace that calls forth from all people: faith, repentance, confession, baptism, and new life and ministry in Christ and through the Holy Spirit.

Our History

We began as a small group with a vision to reach people without the usual barriers created by traditional churches (see vision, purpose and mission).  On June 13, 2004, we began with about 14 adults meeting at 9508 Silverthorn, Rick & Gloria Cobb’s home, every other Sunday evening.  We prayed together, worshipped together, and sought God’s direction together.  Through this, Journey Christian Community was born.

The Lord gave us growth that created the need to seek another place for gathering, so we rented the Lion’s Den.  Our first gathering at the Lion’s Den was September 12, 2004, with an attendance of about 45.  This was our first time to be led in praise by a praise band.  Again, the Lord blessed us with more growth that caused us to seek another gathering place, the China Spring Elementary School.

Our first time to gather at the China Spring Elementary School was the evening of November 21, 2004.  We celebrated Thanksgiving together on the 21st.  We met on Sunday evenings until December 5, 2004.  This was our first Sunday morning gathered worship, and we began meeting every Sunday morning from that day forward.  The Lord continued blessing us with growth, and when we had our Grand Opening, January 29, 2006, the date of our official public beginning as Journey Christian Community, growth accelerated at an amazing pace.  We grew from 75 to 150 people.  During this time the Lighthouse Fellowship donated their building to Journey on Old China Spring Road.  We remodeled the building and use it now as offices and the youth center called The Spring.  The Grand Opening for The Spring was August 26 along with our first 5th Quarter following China Spring’s home football games.

Our first year was amazing.  We experienced people’s lives being changed, people rededicating their lives to Jesus, and people giving their hearts to Jesus for the first time.  Our members served the community in various ways and we saw God work!

The Lord continued to bless us with growth and resources, giving us the opportunity to purchase a building (True Value Hardware Store) at 10424 China Spring Highway.  We remodeled this building, call it The Gathering Place, and use it for our Sunday gatherings for worship, children’s ministry and other events that facilitate celebrating, connecting and contributing.  Our first Sunday in The Gathering Place was March 19, 2006.  Our Grand Opening for The Gathering Place was March 26, 2006.  And now, because of the growth the Lord has given us, we have introduced another time for gathering, which began on July 9, 2006.  Our two times for gathering are 9:00 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.

We anticipate the Lord continuing to give us growth as we faithfully seek to go the way that He will bless, as we walk together making a difference.
